A 101 foot waterfall cascades down in glorious magnificence. Guests at Trump National Golf Club gaze in awe at the surrounding unsurpassed beauty. Yet the participants at Ezer Mizion’s 4th Annual Golf Tournament are fully aware that the splendor, for all its majesty, cannot save lives. It is their efforts, the efforts of puny man, that can help a small child to have a future. Hence, even the radiance of the scenic glory cannot vie with the glow of satisfaction on the faces of the guests at having helped to save a Jewish life.
Ezer Mizion’s 4th Annual Golf Tournament will be held on May 5th on behalf of its International Jewish Bone Marrow Registry for Cancer Patients. Often a cancer patient’s sole chance of survival is a bone marrow transplant. To ensure success of the transplant, the donor and patient must match genetically. Until 1998, when the registry was founded, a Jewish cancer patient, applying at the universal registry, would have only a miniscule chance of finding a genetic match. As time is of essence, this response was virtually a death sentence. Since its inception, Ezer Mizion’s Bone Marrow Registry has saved the lives of hundreds of Jews, and serves as an ‘insurance policy’ for worldwide Jewry.
A thirteen year old boy celebrated his Bar Mitzvah holding on to his yarmulke as he had no hair to hold it in place. He is now making plans for high school along with his peers. The parents of a four year old girl were numb in sorrow, thinking their precious baby will never have a chance to grow up. Joyfully, they hold her hand as she skips down the street to be registered at kindergarten for the coming year.
So many lives have been saved. Yet so many still wait in hope and prayer for the match that will allow them to live. Genetic testing is expensive. The aim of Ezer Mizion is to enlarge its registry so that the vast majority of requests can be answered as: Yes! We have a match!
Our devoted, prestigious committee members are working tirelessly towards the success of the event. Dan Arbess, Marc Brodsky, Dr. Aaron Cynamon, Alex Dembitzer, Murray Huberfeld, Michael Landau, Larry Levine, Howard Lorber, David Lyons, Manny Malekan, Zev Marmurstein, Kristy Nilson, Ben Ringel and Stuart Sugarman all urge their fellow Jews to join with them to save the lives of Jews around the globe.
If you would like to participate in the golf tournament either as a player, a sponsor or with a journal ad, please call Ezer Mizion at 718 853 8400. We are in a race against time! Jewish lives are waiting for your response before it’s too late! |
