Or Hashisha –the six pillars In Memory of six fallen sons
On Tuesday Morning after lag Baomer, 20 of Iyar 5764, 11th of May 2004, a tragic disaster fell in Eretz Yisrael and the whole Jewish nation.
Six Israel Defense Forces soldiers from the Givati regiment were killed when a bomb exploded under the armored personnel carrier (APC) in which they were traveling. The troops were part of a large-scale operation in the Gaza City neighborhood of Zeitoun, aimed at destroying workshops producing Qassam rockets.The military wings of Islamic Jihad and Hamas - the Al-Quds Brigades and Iz a Din al-Kassam - claimed responsibility for planting the device, which was reported to weigh dozens of kilograms.
The names of the six holy soldiers killed in the attack are:
: Edron Amar, 20 Eilat;
Eitan Neuman, Jerusalem 21
; Aviad Deri, Ma'aleh Adumim 21;
Kobi Mizrahi, Moshav Matta 21
; Ofer Jerbi, Moshav Ben Zakai 20
. ,Jacob Marvisa.from Hamafil 26
They gave their lives for you and for me; for the Jewish people, for the Land of Israel .
One of the soldiers killed in the attack was Aviad Dery Z”L. The oldest son of Chaim and Tamar Dery. Aviad grew up in the Ma'alot Dafna neighborhood of Jerusalem and completed his studies at a yeshiva high school, followed by the Chemdat Academy in the Jordan Valley, where he combined Yeshivah studies and military training. The family recently moved to Ma'aleh Adumim Hoping to give a better life for their children. Just a week before he was killed. Aviad, celebrated his 21st birthday .
A parent is not supposed to bury their son,Tamar Aviads mother said ,Aviad is in a better place now, I belive that he is Happy and is in a higher level.
Aviad was our oldest son our Bechor. Every child is a world onto itself But Aviad was a special son , He was the glory of the family Not only was he the oldest son , but he was also the first grandson and Nefew, When Aviad was Born our whole life was changed.
Liat Aviads sister describes Aviad as a very special brother, you would never hear even one bad word out of his mouth never spoke even one word of lashon harah . We were all so proud of him, All my friends knew that when Aviad came home for Shabbat ,Liat is going to be home all Shabbat.
When Aviad would come home early on Friday he and his friends would go every time to a different river bank (maayanot) He loved exploring, Eretz Yisrael and its nature especially water. After his death a River bank that Aviad loved to go was dedicated to him and his fellow soldier’ Eitan Nauman Z’L.
On the dedication Chaim ,Aviads father described his son and the other soldiers as boys who loved Eretz yisrael , Especially Aviad who told his father that if he would be asked to go to Gush Katif to chase people out of their homes he could not do it, Because he didn’t believe in giving even one inch of the holy land to the enemies. He was willing and ready to sit in jail and not to chase Jews out of their homes.
Deri was an outstanding soldier whose commander asked him to enroll in the officer's course. When asked to do so Aviad said in his humble way” Who am I to be officer over my friends”. An uncle, Moshe, described him as "an ethical, humble, talented person, with a promising military career. He was the pride of the family. At his induction party a year ago, everyone acted as if they were saying goodbye, and brought him letters and gifts. Ten days before he was killed Aviad was involved in a serious traffic accident which totaled his fathers car, but Aviad only suffered light injuries. He said that he had seen death before his eyes. He received several leaves from the army but called his commander and insisted to come back to the unit. Even though he was ordered to stay home, he showed up back at his camp. Aviad felt so bad about his father’s car and he insisted that his father should use money from Aviad, s savings to fix the car, His father Chaim told him that It doesn’t matter a car is just a car, Baruch Hashem you are alive. The savings that Aviad wanted to use to fix his fathers car was supposed to be savings for his wedding, After his death Aviad’s father bought with the savings a Sefer Torah which will be dedicated to a shul which is going to be built in the city of Maalot Dafna called Or Hashisha in memory of the six fallen soldiers who didn’t merit to establish their own families.
Aviad would have wanted us to be happy and continue with our lives said Tamar Aviads mother even though we are in so much pain and miss Aviad very much, we will continue for Aviads sake. Because this is what he wants. When aviad was born it changed our life, now after his death it is a brand new chapter in our life and we know that aviad is with us everyday. Sgt. Aviad Deri was buried at Mount Herzl Military Cemetery in Jerusalem. He is survived by his parents, Chaim and Tamar, two sisters, Chen and Liat, and a younger brother, Asa'el.
Their officer Lieutenant Nati Talzak Told us that a few hours preciding the Mission . The soldiers sat in a circle and discussed the issues of Lag Baomer and the counting of the omer. The discussion turned to the amazing story of Rabbi Akivah whos flesh was combed with iron combs as one of the ten martyrs. Rabbi Akivah’s students asked him: How can you stand such suffering? And Rabbi Akivah answered , All of my life I was concerned about how to abide by the commandments of” Bechol Nafshecha “(with all your soul) I said when will I be able to fulfill it. And now that I have the opportunity, I should”t do so?
Such was the content of the soldier’s discussion as they left for the night long daring mission, spiritually and emotionally charged. An armed vehicle laden with 150 kilos of explosives designated for the destruction of weapon factories in the Zeitun neighborhood if Gaza. At dawn, a loud explosion was heard- the armed vehicle in which they traveled was hit by an RPG missile. Our six beloved sons (may hashem revenge their blood) were killed. Their body parts were dispersed all over the area. Even 24 hours after the disaster their friends were still gathering up the body parts of our heroic sons.
So our beloved sons fulfilled the saying of Rabbie Akivah “and now that I have the opportunity, I shouldn’t do so”?
הצבי ישראל על במותך חלל איך נפלו גיבורים " “
"The beauty ,O Israel , is slain upon high places, how have the mighty fallen”
After discussing with the fallen soldiers families Chaim Deri the father of Aviad Dery Z’L decided to set up a none for profit organization: Or Hashisha, In memory of the six fallen soldiers.
The aim of the organization is the building of the synagogue: Or Hashisha : The six pillars. Where their will be a study center, library, Hachnasat Orchim and kiruv work, bringing Jews closer to Judaism.
The shul will be built in the town of Maale Adumim, the hometown of Aviad Dery Z’L . Maale Adumim is 10 minutes away from the holy city Jerusalem, It has 35,000 residents, of which a third are orthodox, and two thirds are traditional.
We the members of Aviad’s family and the organization, turn to each and every one of you with the request of assistance in order to make these objectives possible, and first and foremost the establishment of the synagogue, in memory of the six heroic soldiers.
“May their memories be engraved in our hearts forever?”
Any help that can be given will be much appreciated and a big mitzvah
