If a Dr. does not write ‘DAW’ in the box on the bottom of the prescription form then the drug will be automatically filled as a generic, if one exists. After your doctor hands you the prescription ask him about the difference between the branded and generic drug- so you can determine which is best for you. Patients that request brand drugs from their doctor, when a generic exists, should keep in mind that they may pay a higher co-pay.
Dr. Ben Miller, Pharm D.
